My Own Story: I built my dreams relying on hardwork and determination
I am the eldest among the brood of three. I wasn't born to an affluent family, the land where our house was built was not actually ours.
Inspite of my situation, I never felt poor because I have parents who did everything for us to have a quality education. My mother cooked and sold rice cakes in order to sustain our financial needs in partnership with my father who is a farmer. Ours is a typical Filipino family where our parents have to work hard in order to provide our daily needs.
Our house had no electricity and no appliances. All we had was a transistor radio so that we can listed to the latest local and national news. Life was hard back then. We have to finish studying our lessons before 8:00 o'clock in the evening because we were just using a kerosene lamp.
I attended my high school years at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Academy where I graduated as the Class Valedictorian and the recipient of the Leadership Award.
I was able to continue my high school studies after getting a scholarship from a group of educators who wanted to help poor students who have good academic potential.
High school was the place where I honed my writing skills. I started as a staff writer and eventually during my senior year, I became the editor-in-chief of our high school newspaper. I learned that the key to writing is to write with your mind and to edit with your heart.
Getting a high school diploma was a combination of hard work and academic discipline.
In college, I enrolled at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines,Sta. Mesa, Manila where I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy. This is a state university where I studied for four years with the minimal tuition fee.
The following year I worked at Today Newspaper, an English daily newspaper circulated in the Philippines where I was exposed to the financial, operational and editorial facets of the company. I also made sure to contribute articles to other newspapers to satisfy my passion for writing.
After five years of working with Today Newspaper, I worked at The Manila Times. My stint there, however, was short-lived due to political turmoil during that time.
My subsequent employment was with a Maritime School in our province. I helped my relatives in putting up the school which is now a very successful venture.
Around 2004, I became an Exhibit Manager where I organized the very first Food Cart Trade Expo in the Philippines. Because of the popularity of food carts during that time, people happily embraced the concept. Subsequently, food cart expos were organized at the World Trade Center, Manila and the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City.
At the height of the foodcart success, I organized various food cart companies to form a cluster in order to participate at the very first Go Negosyo Expo at the Market Market Mall located at Taguig City, Philippines as well as the second Go Negosyo Expo at the Philippine Army Gym located in the same above-mentioned city.
My exposures to various expos and exhibits sharpened my business, franchising and organizing skills. I met businessmen who eagerly shared their success formula in the franchising industry. These experiences led me and my wife to venture into franchise development and franchise consultancy.
Today, I decided to lead an inspirational campaign by writing books and conducting inspirational talks that will help people to start their own business and give them guidance on how to become rich and successful by changing their lines of thinking.
